Alfred State EOP Students
This year marks the 50th anniversary of EOP. Across New York, Over 60,000 students, who may have been passed over for a higher education, have earned their degrees with EOP support. Here at Alfred, we are proud to have almost 600 EOP graduates so far!
For the last two summers, EOP has provided incoming students with a four-week "Summer Preparatory Academy." Participants have an intensive review of Math and English and learn about what it takes to be successful in college through seminars and discussion with mentors and EOP professional staff. The students work in teams to assist Habitat for Humanity, which helps local families in need. The summer program also includes recreational activities and trips as a reward for students' hard work. The program definitely helps freshmen get off to a good start in their first semester at college. Most of our mentors are EOP students themselves.
As you well know, being an EOP student can sometimes be very difficult. Money is tight, and we cannot always afford the textbooks and on-line codes, which are essential for our academic success. Class supplies and kits are costly, and Financial Aid is unable to keep pace with rising prices. EOP students too often try to “get by’ without these things, which results in low or failing grades. Many EOP students come from the New York City area, and are unable to afford bus tickets to travel home for school breaks. EOP students have been known to “get by” with the minimum number of meal “swipes”. Our EOP family needs our help and support.
You can help! We have created an account to help EOP students with financial emergencies, such as those listed above.
Every gift matters, no matter the size. Please help us "Pay it Forward" for future EOP students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to not only attend college but succeed!
